Mastopexy (Breast Lift) – An Overview

Mastopexy (breast lift) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that adjusts the shape and contour of the breasts without altering size. It may also be performed with breast augmentation (implants) to achieve an optimal result. Many women, while satisfied with their basic breast size, still prefer adjustments to their breasts for a variety of reasons.
The most common reasons women consider this procedure include:

  • to balance the shape or position of uneven breasts
  • to address breast ptosis (sagging breast)
  • to raise the position of downward pointing nipples and areolas
  • to reduce the size of the areolas

Mastopexy (breast lift) surgery provides results in those women who are satisfied with their existing breast size.

Dr Lim and Dr Somia are experienced in providing expert and personalised advice regarding suitability for the surgery and the expected outcome.
The mastopexy (breast lift) procedure can be performed over the age of 18 and once breast development has stopped. Breast size and shape can change with pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, weight loss and ageing and it’s important to remember that following the lift, your breasts will continue to be affected by these events over the coming years. The result of mastopexy (breast lift) surgery is longer lasting in smaller-breasted women.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift): The Incision

Dr Lim / Dr Somia will discuss the options regarding placement of incisions with you. The placement and number of incisions depend on the existing size and shape of your breasts and the amount of skin and tissue that needs to be removed to achieve your desired result. Most commonly an incision is made around the areola, another from the lower part of the areola vertically down the breast (lollipop incision) and possibly another incision travelling along the breast crease (anchor-shaped incision).
Dr Lim and Dr Somia will discuss the surgical approach most suitable for you and your concerns regarding it. Care is taken to place the incisions so they will be as inconspicuous as possible, even with low-cut clothing.
